About The Artist

Layla Janvrin is a disabled Toronto artist living with bipolar disorder and ADHD, working in watercolour, acrylic and mixed media.  Her work centres around mental illness, liminality, and relationships, and how they are linked to myth and story.

While growing up, Layla learned to paint with her working muralist mother. Starting out as a professional musican, she pivoted to the visual arts in her late 20s as trauma and mental illness began demanding new ways of expressing herself.

Starting with classes at George Brown over a decade ago, she has been moving from acrylic to watercolour as her medium of choice, either alone or in combination with other media.
